Rome, 14 May 1997 (RFE/RL) - Italy says it plans to host an international conference on Albania to study a range of issues in hopes of contributing to the stabilization of the Balkan country.
The Foreign Ministry said the conference, scheduled for June 18, would be held at the ministerial level.
The announcement comes after a meeting of senior officials from countries in the U.N.-backed force. Italy leads the contigent whose mission is to secure aid deliveries to Albania. The tiny Balkan nation has been wracked with civil unrest following the collapse of several pyramid investment schemes earlier this year.
