Washington, 20 May 1997 (RFE/RL) - The United States says it welcomes the progress reported yesterday in the peace talks between the Tajikistan Government and the opposition.
The sides reportedly plan to sign a peace agreement in Moscow next month which they hope will end a four-year civil war.
U.S. State Department spokesman Nicholas Burns says Washington hopes the progress in Tajikistan will continue and bring an end to the bloodshed.
