Kyiv, 4 June 1997 (RFE/RL) - Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma yesterday approved the removal of Crimean Prime Minister Arkadi Demidenko.
The Crimean parliament has been calling for Demidenko's resignation for several months and has voted three times for his dismissal.
Meanwhile, our correspondent in Kyiv reports that Kuchma has agreed to appoint Anatoli Franchuk as the new prime minister of the autonomous Crimean Republic. Franchuk is the father of Kuchma's son-in-law.
