Russia/U.S.: No Date Set For 1998 Summit

Washington, 22 July 1997 (RFE/RL) - The White House says no date or place has been set yet for a summit in 1998 between U.S. President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

However, spokesman Michael McCurry says Clinton looks forward to meeting the Russian president again next year for bilateral talks.

Some European news agencies reported earlier yesterday that the leaders would discuss energy issues in Moscow next year. McCurry said there will be a meeting of the world's leading industrialized nations, which now includes Russia, on energy issues in Moscow next year, but he says the conference will be at the level of cabinet ministers and not heads of state.
