Bucharest, 28 August 1997 (RFE/RL) - U.S. Senator Richard Lugar (R-Indiana), who is a member of committees dealing with foreign relations and intelligence-related matters, is visiting Bucharest today.
He is expected to focus discussions on Romania's aspirations to join NATO. Our Bucharest correspondent reports Lugar will also discuss the U.S.-Romania strategic partnership announced by President Bill Clinton last month, when he visited Romania.
Lugar is scheduled to meet President Emil Constantinescu, Prime Minister Viktor Ciorbea and Foreign Adrian Severin.
