Romania: Dacia Shares To Be Traded On Bucharest Stock Exchange

Bucharest, 11 September 1997 (RFE/RL) - Officials at the Bucharest Stock Exchange say trading in shares of Romania's largest carmaker, Dacia Pitesti, will start on Monday. Dacia will be the 59th company listed on the exchange, which started trading in eight companies last year.

In a statement, Exchange officials said they also have approved trading of shares in four more companies -- Banca Transilvania, Navol, Amonil and Siretul -- beginning later this month.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange plans to launch the bourse's official BET Index a week after Dacia starts trading. That index will track 10 firms traded on the exchange, including the automaker.

The Romanian government announced this month that foreigners would be given access to fixed income markets. The decision followed an earlier decree permitting full repatriation of profits for foreign equity investors.
