Europe: Council's Assembly Meets Next Week

Prague, 19 September 1997 (RFE/RL) - The Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly is due to assess Monday whether the Czech Republic and Lithuania have honored the commitments they made when they joined the organization four years ago.

The debate and vote on Czech and Lithuanian compliance will lead off the Parliamentary Assembly's week-long Autumn session at Council headquarters in Strasbourg.

The Assembly will also consider preparations for the organization's second summit meeting, scheduled for early next month.

It will discuss as well the situation in Albania, protection of minorities, anti-personnel mines and European space policies. The directors of the European and Russian space agencies, Antonio Rodota and Yuri Koptev, are due to take part in the assembly's discussions.
