Warsaw, 25 September 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Polish Prime Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz told President Aleksander Kwasniewski today that he and his Cabinet are ready to resign "as soon as possible".
Presidential spokesman Antoni Styrczula says the president wants tom appoint the new government after the new constitution takes effect on October 16. Parliament uis due to reconvene October 20.
Styrczula says Kwasniewski will start consultations with representatives of all the parties entering the new Parliament on Monday and will meet with the Solidarity alliance on Thursday.
Cimoszewicz's Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) has been in power since 1993 in coalition with the Peasant Party (PSL) and came second Sunday to the Solidarity (AWS) bloc of nearly 40 small parties.
