Romania: Denmark Visit To Focus On NATO, EU


Bucharest, 20 October 1997 (RFE/RL) - Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Severin is due to travel to Denmark today for a two-day official visit that is likely to focus on Romania's desire to join NATO and the European Union.

Severin is scheduled to meet the Danish Queen Margrethe II, his counterpart Niels Helveg Petersen as well as the Speaker of Parliament.

Romanian officials acknowledged that the main issues of the Romanian-Danish talks in Copenhagen are set to focus on Romania's integration in the European and Euro-Atlantic structures and on bilateral cooperation.

At the Danish Institute for International Relations, Severin is scheduled to speak about Romanian efforts to join the EU.
