Yerevan, 30 October 1997 (RFE/RL) - A senior member of Armenia's banned Dashnak party (HHD) says HHD representatives will meet with Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrossian in early November.
A member of the HHD's ruling bureau, Apo Boghikian, told reporters today in Yerevan his party's leadership will most likely discuss with Ter-Petrossian cooperation on "foreign policy issues," and more specifically "how to use the HHD's capacities to back Nagorno-Karabakh in the light of the growing international pressure" on the Armenian side over its refusal to recognize Azerbaijan's sovereignty over the region.
The HHD's Armenia organization was banned in December 1994 by a presidential decree on the grounds that it sponsored a secret terrorist organization named Dro. But the trial this year of a number of Dashnak party members found no links between the alleged terrorist group and the HHD leadership.
