Kazakhstan: President To Meet Gore




Washington, 17 November 1997 (RFE/RL) - President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan is meeting U.S. Vice President Al Gore in Washington today.

The two will meet at the U.S. State Department before they convene the fourth session of the Kazakhstan-U.S. Joint Commission, which will discuss a range of issues. The two will have a follow up meeting on Tuesday.

Nazarbayev arrived in Washington yesterday for an official visit. He is scheduled to have talks with President Bill Clinton tomorrow on a number of issues, including Caspian Sea oil development.

In addition to his meetings with Clinton and Gore, Nazarbayev is also scheduled to sign several economic development agreements with private American firms and take part in a trade and investment conference sponsored by the Institute of East-West Studies.
