The East: Countries To Sign Border Agreement


Bucharest, 21 November 1997 (RFE/RL) - An agreement on cooperation among border communities from Romania, Hungary and Serbia is scheduled to be signed today in the Hungarian town of Szeged. The document is part of a regional cooperation plan called "Danube-Mures-Tisa," and it involves four Romanian counties (Arad, Caras-Severin, Hunedoara and Timis),four Hungarian counties (Bacs-Kiskun, Bekes, Csongrad and Jasz-Nagykun-Szolnok) and the Serb province of Vojvodina.

The aim of the trans-border cooperation plan is to improve and expand relations among local populations, in areas such as trade, education, culture, science, tourism, ecology and sport.
