Azerbaijan: Aliyev Again Urges Peaceful Solution With Armenia




Baku, 7 September 1998 (RFE/RL) -- Azerbaijani President Halled for the peaceful resolution of his country's conflict with neighboring Armenia.

Speaking to reporters at Baku airport, he said it was time for the two countries, as he put it, "to move from a spirit of enmity to a spirit of cooperation."

Aliyev said Azerbaijan had suffered greatly in its conflict with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh. He said much blood was shed, but stressed it is now time to look forward. He said the two neighboring countries could not live as enemies forever.

Armenian Prime Minister Armen Darbinian will be arriving tomorrow in Baku and will be leading his country's delegation to the Silk Road conference.
