Chechnya: OSCE Due To Visit Camps In Ingushetia Today

Moscow, 10 November 1999 (RFE/RL) -- A mission from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is due today to visit camps in Ingushetia, where some 200,000 refugees have settled after fleeing Russia's military offensive in neighboring Chechnya. OSCE officials said the trip is aimed at getting a picture of the scope of the humanitarian crisis and how it can be coped with. Reports said some Russian military operations have been hampered by fog and heavy snowfall in Chechnya. But Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin vowed the six-week-old air and artillery assault would continue.
