Tajikistan: Explosion At Russian Border Guard Building

Dushanbe, 19 June 2000 (RFE/RL) - Police in Tajikistan say a bomb exploded today in a residential building used by Russian border troops. A second explosive device was discovered on another floor of the building and defused. Authorities say nobody was hurt by the explosion -- which shattered windows on several floors of the building. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Russian troops help Tajikistan patrol its border with Afghanistan against frequent incursions by smugglers trafficking drugs from Central Asia through Russia and on to western Europe.
