Feira, Portugal; 20 June 2000 (RFE/RL) - The European Union Summit meeting in northern Portugal goes into its second and final day today, with discussions continuing on a wide range of subjects. Yesterday, the 15 leaders approved measures which included expanding the agenda of the ongoing intergovernmental conference, which is meant to reform the EU's institutions to prepare for eastward expansion.
The agenda now contains references to concepts of "enhanced cooperation" -- a measure which will allow closer integration of an inner core of EU members.
The summit also agreed to a French initiative for a top-level EU meeting with the countries of the former Yugoslavia.
