Ukraine: Journalist Dies Of Injuries After Assault

Kyiv, 7 July (RFE/RL) -- Ukrainian investigative journalist Igor Aleksandrov died today of head injuries he sustained when he was beaten by unknown assailants earlier this week. Aleksandrov, the manager of the TOR television station in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slavyansk, was pronounced dead this morning due to massive head trauma. Aleksandrov was beaten in the stairwell of the television station building by attackers armed with baseball bats. The 45-year-old station director never regained consciousness after the attack.

Colleagues of Aleksandrov at the television station linked Aleksandrov's attack to his investigative reporting on corruption and organized crime in the region.

Aleksandrov is the 11th journalist killed in Ukraine in the last five years.
