Tehran, 15 September 2001 (RFE/RL) -- Iran's Interior Ministry today said it has ordered its security forces to seal off the border with Afghanistan. In a statement carried by the official IRNA news agency, the ministry said its military and police forces have been deployed along the 900-kilometer border to prevent Afghans from crossing over -- as the statement said -- "in the aftermath of the probable U.S. attacks." Iran has said it cannot accommodate any new arrivals, citing more than two million Afghan refugees already in the country.
