Pristina, 28 January 2002 (RFE/RL) -- UN police and NATO-led peacekeeping forces in Kosovo today arrested three ethnic Albanian Kosovars suspected of committing war crimes during the 1998-99 war. Troops of the KFOR peacekeeping force and UN police raided a building in Pristina where the three suspects were employed and carried out searches in the suspects' homes.
Police did not reveal the names of the detainees, but said they were former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) in the Podujevo region during the conflict.
Police spokesman Barry Fletcher told the dpa news agency that the detainees were suspected of committing murders, physical attacks, and abductions of civilians. He said that the victims were also ethnic Albanian Kosovars.
Last December, police arrested two other former UCK members on suspicion of committing war crimes against Kosovo Serbs.
