Albania: President Calls On Fellow Balkan Leaders To Improve Ties


Tirana, 28 March 2002 (RFE/RL) -- Albanian President Rexhep Meidani today called on fellow leaders from Southeastern Europe to strengthen regional ties, fight organized crime, and resolve conflicts peacefully. Meidani also said concrete steps should be taken to set up a common economic space in the region.

Meidani was addressing leaders from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Turkey, and Yugoslavia gathering in Albania's capital Tirana for a summit of the South-East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP).

Yugoslavia is to take over the rotating presidency of the group from Albania at the end of the month.
