Skopje, 8 May 2002 (RFE/RL) -- UN prosecutor Carla Del Ponte arrived in Macedonia today to "remind the government to fulfill its obligations" to the war crimes tribunal. UN officials said Del Ponte is scheduled to meet with Macedonian Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski and public prosecutor Stavre Dzikov as well as European Union officials in the region.
The tribunal in The Hague is investigating several possible war crimes in Macedonia. UN, NATO, and EU representatives have exhumed two mass grave sites in the region, but have not yet published results.
Del Ponte traveled to Skopje from Croatia, where she met with officials yesterday and toured sites of alleged atrocities.
