Russia: Kasyanov Says Debt Dispute Settled With Bulgaria

Moscow, 5 June 2002 (RFE/RL) -- Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov says Russia and Bulgaria have "definitively settled their financial disputes." Kasyanov said after talks with Bulgarian Prime Minister Simeon Saxecoburggotski in Moscow today that the two countries agreed to value the former Soviet Union's debt to Bulgaria at about $100 million.

Kasyanov said the debt will be paid "with the help of deliveries of nuclear fuel, other goods, and a small amount in cash."

Kasyanov said at the beginning of the talks that their ministers drafted trade, financial, and cultural agreements for them to consider.

The Bulgarian prime minister's four-day trip to Russia ends tomorrow.
