Belarus: Agreement Reached With Russia On Gas Supplies

Moscow, 10 December 2002 (RFE/RL) -- The prime ministers of Russia and Belarus have agreed on Russian exports of natural gas to Belarus next year. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov and Belarusian Prime Minister Henadz Navitski met today in Moscow and agreed that Belarus would receive 18.5 billion cubic meters of Russian gas in 2003. Russia's Gazprom will deliver close to two-thirds of that amount, with smaller, private companies supplying the remainder.

Navitski said the deal specifies that Belarus will pay artificially low prices for the gas supplies.
