Iran: Dissident Journalist Sentenced To Jail

Tehran, 8 March 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Iran's Revolutionary Court has sentenced Narges Mohammadi, a prominent woman journalist and dissident activist, to a year in prison on charges of harming national security. Mohammadi's lawyer, Mohammad Sharif, said his client was sentenced for interviews with local press and international radio stations in which she protested her husband's imprisonment.

Sharif also said Mohammadi faced additional charges in another court, including propaganda against the regime and insulting authorities.

Mohammadi's husband, writer Taqi Rahmani, was jailed two years ago with some 60 other liberal dissidents on charges of plotting against the Islamic regime.
