Washington, 5 May 2003 (RFE/RL) -- U.S. defense officials are quoted as saying American forces have taken into custody another of the most-wanted Iraqis, this one a scientist believed to be knowledgeable about weapons programs under ousted President Saddam Hussein's government. Officials said Huda Salih Mahdi Ammash was taken into custody in Baghdad yesterday. She is designated number 53 on the list of 55 most-wanted Iraqis.
Ammash is believed to have been involved in the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction programs, specifically those for biological weapons. She was also identified as a Ba'ath Party regional command member.
