Iraq: U.S. Forces Capture Another On Most-Wanted List

Doha, 7 May 2003 (RFE/RL) -- U.S. Central Command says coalition forces have in custody another person on the U.S. list of 55 most-wanted former Iraqi officials. Central Command today said forces have jailed Ghazi Hammud, who was regional chairman of toppled leader Saddam Hussein's Ba'ath party in the Kut district. The statement did not give details of where or when Hammud was taken into custody, or whether he surrendered or was taken by force.

The announcement comes one day after U. S. President George W. Bush announced the appointment of Paul Bremer as the top civilian administrator in Iraq. Bremer will head the transition team, which includes Jay Garner, currently the senior U.S. civilian administrator in Iraq.
