Moscow, 22 May 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has told his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush that Russia is ready to develop cooperation with the United States in "all spheres." The Kremlin today said that the message had been delivered to the White House by visiting Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov.
Putin was also quoted as saying in the message that the Russia-U.S. "partnership" works for the benefit of global security and stability.
Russia actively opposed the war against Iraq, but has since shown signs of trying to improve relations.
Putin and Bush are scheduled to meet on 1 June at a multinational summit in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.
