Bishkek, 28 May 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz law-enforcement officials said today they have detained a man suspected of organizing attacks on Interior Ministry buildings in the southern Djalal-Abad Oblast earlier this month. The Interior Ministry said that police in the town of Tash-Kumyr apprehended Adyl Karimov, known by his nickname "Black Adyl."
Karimov has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt since 15 May 15 when he and a small armed group attacked police stations in the Djalal-Abad area and stole a large number of weapons.
Kyrgyz officials said Karimov and his group were planning to free a jailed comrade.
Seven other members of the group are already in custody. Kyrgyz authorities believe they now have captured all members of the group.
