Afghanistan: Rockets Hit Close To UN Office In Jalalabad

Peshawar, Pakistan; 30 June 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Security officials in eastern Afghanistan said several rockets landed near a United Nations office today. News agencies say the explosions in Jalalabad shattered windows in some houses but caused no injuries. The attackers have not been identified.

This is the second rocket attack apparently aimed at the UN Children's Fund office in Jalalabad. In April, a hand grenade shattered office windows and damaged an office vehicle, but no one was hurt.

There have been numerous rocket attacks in Afghanistan against government buildings as well as offices of international aid organizations.
