Pristina, 19 August 2003 (RFE/RL) -- The UN police in Kosovo have arrested a Serbian man in connection with the killing earlier this month of a UN policeman. UN spokesman Andrea Angeli said the man was arrested yesterday in Slatina, northern Kosovo.
Satish Menon, the native Indian UN policeman, was fatally shot in an ambush while driving a clearly marked patrol car through a Serbian enclave in northern Kosovo.
In a separate incident, unidentified attackers threw two hand grenades yesterday at the home of ethnic Albanians in Lucane, southern Serbia. An ethnic Albanian visiting from Kosovo was slightly injured in the incident.
These incidents took place a day after Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Nebojsa Covic called on international forces in Kosovo to mount a more vigorous response to ethnically motivated attacks.
Covic addressed the UN Security Council to appeal for more protection for Kosovo's minorities following a series of killings of Serbs in the province.
