Iraq: More UN Staffers Evacuated To Jordan


Amman, 24 August 2003 (RFE/RL) -- At least 46 UN staffers have arrived in Amman aboard two flights. UN coordinator Christine McNab said today that yesterday's were employees transiting through Jordan. She said more staffers making their way out of Baghdad are expected to arrive in Jordan.

She said some 160 of the nearly 300 UN staff members in Iraq have been evacuated from Baghdad since the 19 August devastating truck bomb attack on the UN headquarters.

The blast claimed the lives of 23 people including UN special envoy to Iraq Sergio Vieira de Mello.
