Athens, 14 October 2003 (RFE/RL) -- A Greek appeals court today rejected a request from Russia to extradite former Russian media mogul Vladimir Gusinskii (pictured), after reviewing additional documentation from Russian prosecutors sent at the court's request. In a hearing that lasted one minute, the appellate court ruled against Russia's extradition request saying that under Greek law the accusations against Gusinskii did not constitute a crime.
Gusinskii, traveling on a Russian and Israeli passport, was detained in Athens in August on an international warrant. Russia accuses Gusinskii of embezzlement and money laundering.
