A Second Term for Ahmadinejad?

August 25 -- "Recent remarks by Iran's Supreme Leader are a sign of his unconditional support for Ahmadinejad's government," says Toronto-based journalist Shahram Rafizadeh in an interview with Radio Farda. She says Khamenei told Ahmadinejad to work in his last year as if it were his first. Rafizadeh says these comments violate the Iranian Constitution [Audio in Persian / Article in English].

Students Arrested

August 25 -- A student activist at the Tarbiat Moalem Teacher Training University in the city of Karaj says about 35 students who participated in a sit-in last June were recently summoned to the university's disciplinary committee, as well as the Revolutionary Court. He says two members of the group were arrested and they have no information on their whereabouts or condition [Audio in Persian].

Iranian Ship Hijacked

August 25 -- Following the hijacking of an Iranian ship off the coast of Somalia, Radio Farda discussed piracy at sea with Captain P. Mukundan, the U.K.-based Director of Commercial Crime Services, the anti-crime division of the International Chamber of Commerce [Audio in Persian].

Another Minor Executed

August 26 -- One week after the execution of Reza Hejazi, another child offender, Behnam Zare, was hanged. Zare's lawyer -- who represents 25 other minors -- says his client's execution was unexpected. He claims Zare was hanged on a day when sentences are not normally carried out at Shiraz prison [Audio in Persian].
