Federal And Republican Tax Collectors Join Forces
A meeting of Tatarstan's prosecutor's office and federal and republican tax officers held in Kazan aimed to improve interaction between the central and republican fiscal bodies in an effort to overcome contradictions between 1999 amendments to the federal Tax Code and the federal laws on Operative Detection of the Tax Police, the republican press reported on 14 December.
Tatarstan Airlines To Establish Direct Flights To Prague
Tatarstan Airlines announced on 14 December that it will begin direct Kazan to Prague flights on 9 January. The general-director of the company, Magomet Zakarzhaev, told journalists that he expected the new route to be more profitable than the Kazan-Istanbul flight. Before the Russian financial crisis of August 1998, numerous merchants from Tatarstan brought Turkish goods to Kazan via Tatarstan Airlines. The company then witnessed a significant decrease in passengers after the slump of the Russian ruble in 1998. Zakarzhaev said his company also sought to establish directs flights to Spain, China, and India.
Islamic Food Shop Opens In Kazan
The first store selling halyal meat opened in Kazan as the holy Muslim month of Ramadan began, Tatarinform agency reported on 14 December. The shop sells fresh meat prepared according to Muslim customs. City officials and members of the Muslim Religious Board attended the opening. Previously, such meat was sold only in city markets.
