MONDAY, August 30:

Kazakhstan
: Kazakhstan holds a military parade to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the adoption of its constitution.

Tatarstan: Russian Republic of Tatarstan celebrates the 20th anniversary of its Declaration of State Sovereignty.


Ukraine: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych travels to Germany to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.


TUESDAY, August 31:

Azerbaijan: The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe mission holds a regular monitoring session on the Line of Contact between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces.

Iraq: U.S. President Barack Obama makes a major address on Iraq.

Kosovo: New commander of NATO force in Kosovo takes over.

Russia: Russian opposition and human rights activists hold a March of Dissent in Moscow and other cities.

Tajikistan: U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Robert Blake travels to Dushanbe (to September 1).



WEDNESDAY, September 1:


Russia: Anniversary of the tragic 2004 events in Beslan, when a group of militants demanding an end to the war in Chechnya took more than 1,000 children and adults hostage at a school.

: Turkish President Abdullah Gul visits Sarajevo to discuss Turkey’s policy in the Balkans ( to September 3).

Russia/Azerbaijan: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev pays a state visit to Azerbaijan, during which an agreement on Azerbaijan-Russia state border is expected to be signed.

Ukraine: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych pays an official visit to China (to September 5).



FRIDAY, September 3:

Iran: Iran marks Quds (Jerusalem) Day with pro-Palestinian rallies.
