Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has visited the British hospital treating a 15-year-old Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman.

Malala Yousafzai was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after being shot at close range on a schoolbus in Pakistan's northwest Swat Valley on October 9.

The Taliban targeted Malala for criticizing the militant group and promoting the right of girls to attend school.

Zadari and his daughter, Asifa Bhutto, met on December 8 with doctors treating Malala and held a five-minute meeting with the teenager, her father, and two brothers.

In a statement issued by the hospital, Zadari called Malala a "remarkable girl and a credit to Pakistan."

Malala suffered fractures to her skull and jawbone in the attack but is said to be recovering "well."
