European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, for talks about Iran's disputed nuclear program.

Ashton is expected to meet with senior Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, on March 9 and 10.

She might also meet with Iranian President Hassan Rohani.

Ashton leads the group of six world powers -- the Unite States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany -- in talks with Tehran over its nuclear program.

Iran struck an initial deal with the group on November 24 to curb its nuclear program in exchange for an easing of sanctions.

Negotiations for a final deal are ongoing.

Ashton's visit comes in the run-up to the next round of talks, which is set for Vienna on March 17-20.
