Iran, P5+1 Talks Continuing In Vienna

Updated

Iranian negotiators are meeting for a second day with diplomats from six world powers on June 17 in a critical round of nuclear talks.

The negotiations in Vienna, scheduled to continue through June 21, are aimed reaching a permanent agreement limiting Iran's nuclear capabilities.

The five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany want Tehran to scale back nuclear enrichment activities and allow international inspectors greater access to nuclear sites.

Iran wants international sanctions lifted in exchange for a treaty that ends concerns in the West that Tehran is trying to secretly develop nuclear weapons.

Iranian President Hassan Rohani has said remaining “disputes can be resolved with goodwill and flexibility” to reach a permanent agreement before a July 20 deadline.

Negotiations stalled last month over the number of centrifuges Iran wants to maintain.
