Afghan UN Staffer Killed In Kabul Shooting

An Afghan employee of the United Nations was killed today when a UN vehicle was shot at near the U.S. Embassy in central Kabul.

The UN said the circumstances of the shooting were unclear, but were under investigation.

Meanwhile, Afghan officials said 20 people were injured, including protesters and police officers, when police clashed with a stone-throwing mob in eastern Kabul.

Residents were quoted as saying the protest was prompted by a raid conducted by soldiers at a religious school late on June 28.
