15 Killed As Turkish Army Clashes With Kurdish Rebels

Turkish media reports say 15 people have been killed in clashes between the Turkish army and Kurdish separatist rebels in southeast Turkey.

The Anatolia news agency says the dead include 11 Kurdish rebels, a soldier, and three members of a government-supported Kurdish militia.

The fighting erupted overnight when rebels from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) attacked a military outpost in Siirt province.

There has been a marked increase in clashes between the Turkish army and PKK rebels in recent months.

The PKK which is seeking autonomy in Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast began its armed struggle in 1984.
