German police say a suitcase containing a detonator, batteries, and a clock checked on a plane bound for Germany has been intercepted in Namibia.

Germany's Federal Crime Office said the suspect package had been seized at the airport in Windhoek before it was loaded onto the flight to Munich.

It was not clear whether the package contained explosives.

The flight was delayed for several hours but arrived safely in Munich.

The incident comes after Germany stepped up security measures at airports and train stations on November 17 after the interior minister said there were concrete indications of a planned terrorist attack in Germany by the end of this month.
