Afghan President Hamid Karzai is traveling to Tehran to attend a regional conference billed as a "Persian summit," RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.

The conference -- which includes the leaders of Afghanistan, Iran, and Tajikistan -- is meant to improve ties between countries where Persian-related languages are spoken.

Karzai is expected to have talks with Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad and Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon also is expected to attend.

Topics on their agenda include regional security, energy and construction of strategic roads.
