U.S. police have arrested a Pakistani-American man for allegedly plotting attacks on subway stations in and around Washington.
David Kris, assistant attorney general for national security, told reporters that Farooque Ahmed, 34, who lived in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, had been allegedly casing and photographing subway stations since April to plan simultaneous bomb attacks.
The White House said the U.S. public was never in any danger from the alleged plot.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the Justice Department, the FBI, and national security officials had been on "top of this case from the beginning."
