A female member of the Afghan parliament, Maryam Koofi, has been shot and injured near her home in Kabul.

The chief of the Kabul police, Mohammad Zaher, told RFE/RL that Koofi was shot in the leg late in the evening of April 15.

According to Zaher, Koofi's condition is stable and she will survive the attack.

The Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement that the suspected shooter, a law-enforcement officer, has been arrested.
