Afghan Women Protest Latest Taliban Restrictions
A few dozen women braved threats by the Taliban and took to the streets of Kabul on May 10 to voice their discontent over a requirement to cover their faces in public. The order came on May 7 and calls for women to wear head-to-toe coverings and only show their eyes. It immediately sparked criticism from many Afghans and the international community, which condemned the erosion of human rights in the country, especially for women. One demonstrator said the Taliban threatened them with violence.
