An Indian aid worker and Jesuit priest who was kidnapped in Afghanistan eight months ago has been released.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on February 22 that Alexis Prem Kumar had been released and has returned to India.
Kumar was abducted while visiting a school in the western province of Herat last June by unidentified gunmen.
He'd been working in Afghanistan for about four years.
The prime minister's office did not give details of the release or say whether a ransom had been paid but confirmed that Kumar is in good health and will "rejoin his family soon."
