Suicide Bomber Injures 22 In Botched Attack Against Afghan Police

Updated

Afghan officials say a suicide car bomber in the eastern province of Nangarhar injured 22 people, including at least six police officers, in an attack against a police compound early on December 7.

The provincial governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khugyani, confirmed the injury toll.

He said the suicide bomber tried to drive into the police compound in Nangarhar’s Surkh Rud district, but blew the car up before reaching the compound’s gates -- damaging a Sunni mosque, a dozen shops, and the police compound walls.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Taliban militants are active in the area.
