A suicide attack today killed the commander of a provincial Afghan police rapid reaction force, Colonel Zaher, in the eastern province of Khost.
Police said the attack on the police unit's base also killed at least two other people and wounded 23 more, most of them civilians.
Khost's deputy police chief, Mohammad Yahqoob Mandozai, said the suicide attacker had been waiting outside the base and detonated himself as the vehicle carrying the police commander exited the camp.
