The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has named Almaty, Beijing, and Oslo as the finalists to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
The three cities were the only remaining contenders after a series of withdrawals by other candidates.
Oslo is also questionable, as the Norwegian bid has not secured government backing.
The IOC executive board decided on July 7 to approve all three as finalists rather than cut the field any further.
The cities must submit their detailed bids to the IOC by January 2015.
The host city will be selected in Kuala Lumpur on July 31, 2015.
The bid race began with six cities but was cut in half by the withdrawals of Stockholm; Krakow, Poland; and Lviv, Ukraine.
