“Argo,” the Hollywood thriller about U.S. hostages held in Iran, has won the top prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.

The film, directed by and starring Ben Affleck, won the Best Ensemble Cast prize at the evening ceremony on January 27.

“Argo” earlier this month won the Golden Globe honors for best drama and best director, making it a leading contender for the Oscar awards due to be held February 24.

The film is a dramatization of the rescue of U.S. diplomats who took refuge at the Canadian Embassy in Tehran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

In other prizes at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Daniel Day-Lewis won best actor for “Lincoln,” while Jennifer Lawrence won best actress for “Silver Linings Playbook.”
